Philosophy
Stephanie Salter is a ceramicist living in Australia. Her practice includes both wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces designed, fired and glazed in her home studio and local art centre.
She is known for her distinctive pots, sculptures and hand-painted jewellery. Inspired by organic shapes and the Australian environment. She loves exploring new art techniques and cross-pollinating art forms.
She is drawn towards the traditional Japanese form of handbuilding called “Kurinuki”. Its philosophy embraces the beauty in simplicity, honesty and imperfections.
“Sgraffito” is another favourite. It is an old Italian decoration technique popular during the Renaissance and found throughout Rome, Greece and Africa. The process becomes a journey of discovery and teaches the potter to embrace “happy accidents”
Each piece Stephanie creates is unique.
We look forward to hearing from you.
